Establishing a Fund:

Donors can create a charitable fund and recommend grants that support the issues and groups they care about, or rely on the Foundation to make grants that best fit the community’s needs. The Community Foundation becomes the steward of these charitable funds, investing and prudently managing the funds, while maintaining all the necessary financial records. If you have questions about how establishing a fund might fit in your long-term financial plan, tax strategy, and estate plans, consult with your professional advisor. Professional advisors in Johnson County have access to the forms needed to make a gift to the Community Foundation.

Please look over our list of named funds already established.

Although there are many types of funds to fit a donor’s wishes, the primary concern of the Foundation is building endowment—long-term investments whose proceeds fund grants to local nonprofit organizations. Funds may be endowed for a number of charitable purposes, described in the Investment section; if you have questions about establishing a fund, please contact the Executive Director by e-mail [Mike Stoffregen] or at the Foundation’s office.
