The goodwill, civic mindedness, and compassion of Johnson County residents bears fruit in a bountiful harvest of hard-working nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving our schools, sheltering our neighbors, caring for the sick, preserving our green spaces, and inspiring our hearts and minds through the arts. The Community Foundation of Johnson County serves a unique role in that it channels today’s goodwill towards tomorrow’s community needs—needs that may not even be visible yet.
As the Latin proverb has it, “one plants trees to benefit another generation.” The Community Foundation of Johnson County allows the gifts of today to grow into a sheltering tree for next year, the next decade, or the next generation. The core work of the Foundation is in building (see Giving, above) and managing (see Investing, above) an endowment whose fruits can be returned the community in the form of grants to local nonprofit organizations and scholarships for local students (see Grantmaking, above).
