The Englert Theatre reopened for live performance on December 5, 2004. First built in 1912, the historic Englert Theatre closed in 1999 and was sold to become a bar. Rather than lose this amazing piece of Iowa history, community members banded together to raise $5.3 million to return the building to its original splendor and create a true artistic community center.
Now that the doors are open , local bands, dance troupes, and theatre companies are constantly forging new memories on the Englert stage. Businesses sponsor performers from all over the world, and organizations help usher the shows, working side-by-side with the dedicated volunteers who keep the Englert running night after night. Weddings, receptions, and memorials that take place on the historic stage, and the Englert Gallery features artwork by various artists.
