Communities across Johnson County affiliated with the Community Foundation of Johnson County (CFJC) are partnering with eateries in their cities to raise funds for community projects.
Representatives of Coralville, Iowa City, Lone Tree, North Liberty, Swisher and Tiffin Community Funds announced restaurants will donate a portion of their profits to their community fund the second week in August.
Dine Out | Do Good is a win-win-win, explains Sheila Boyd, CFJC Associate Director of Development. "Families enjoy a great meal while supporting local restaurants and projects that will benefit local residents.
"The Johnson County border-to-border fundraiser involves numerous restaurants. The fundraising activity also creates an awareness of community fund affiliates, the Community Foundation and our donors and causes they care about."
Boyd credits University Heights Community Fund with a successful test of the concept in June with Stella's restaurant. As restaurants sign on, information will be added to the website and Facebook pages at www.communityfoundationofjohnsoncounty.org, she adds.
Donations will be made to individual community fund affiliates endowment funds.
CFJC Executive Director Mike Stoffregen said a majority of CFJC community fund affiliates are participating. "Nationally many community foundations are directing attention to giving on one particular day and the results have been very good. Dine Out | Do Good is a way of introducing the activity to Johnson County."
