We Americans love the Olympics. We love to cheer for our athletes and teams who work so hard to achieve their goals.
At the Community Foundation of Johnson County, we are cheering for our Community Fund Affiliates – they are working together to reach the common goal of raising funds for their communities.
And members of the Board of Trustees for all seven communities are working together to achieve a collective “stretch” goal – that of raising $50,000 in a single day on Thursday, Aug. 18.
Working as a team, they are planning and will collectively promote “A Gift of One – The Power of Community.” The trustees will share strategies and cheer each other on – just as Olympic athletes do. Mutual motivation, accountability and belief are powerful tools when working on behalf of a community.
The Power of Community objectives and opportunities are clear:
This countywide, 24-hour effort also offers all seven affiliates an opportunity to raise an additional match of $3,000 if they reach their fundraising goals. And donors who contribute $20 or more to this effort are eligible for a 25 percent Endow Iowa tax credit.
Each community will host an in-person event from 9 a.m. to noon that same day at a site in their individual communities.
Anyone worldwide may donate to one or more Community Fund Affiliate endowment funds between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016. Visit communityfoundationofjohnsoncounty.org.
CFJC Community Fund Affiliates are tax-exempt public charities. Affiliates connect people who care with causes that matter. They, too, are helping individual donors achieve their philanthropic goals. Affiliates also embrace their roles as connectors, navigators and trusted guides. Every day, they work to build a legacy of civic and philanthropic leadership so that we – and you − can continue to do good work, forever.
Founded by generous individuals, families, businesses and organizations, each Community Fund Affiliate helps make their community stronger. There are countless generous individuals and families who support their community and want to maximize their charitable giving. As a result, they make a real difference in people’s lives and in their communities.
Cheer on your Community Fund Affiliate. Join the team and make a difference with your donation. Giving back moves us all forward.

Community Fund Affiliates are associates of the Community Foundation of Johnson County that are designed to help their community grow endowment funds to benefit their community’s future. Community Funds can receive donations and bequests to benefit the community in perpetuity. By working with a host community foundation, the affiliates are able to focus on raising funds, while relying on the host community foundation to provide administration, investment and daily tasks. Each community has access to their fund’s earnings each year, and determines how to best use the interest for grants to meet community needs.
