Lone Tree Community Foundation becomes first to affiliate with the Community Foundation of Johnson County.

The Community Foundation of Lone Tree, Iowa has become a first for the Community Foundation of Johnson County, the first to affiliate under new Federal provisions for foundation activities.

“The Lone Tree Community Foundation was established by local residents in 2001 as a means to accept community donations to improve the community of Lone Tree through recreational opportunities. A sample of our projects include, the rehabilitation of tennis courts, new playground equipment, a remote control airplane runway, and solving the drainage issues in Dougherty Park,” said Melinda Wieland, President of the Lone Tree Foundation.

“Our Board of Directors is convinced that by becoming an affiliate of the much larger Community Foundation of Johnson County, Lone Tree will have access to grant programs and more importantly an endowment program to help our community with its’ recreational needs in the future.” Wieland said.

“Community Affiliate Funds are a new program for the State of Iowa,” stated Mike Stoffregen, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“Smaller groups and organizations typically do not have the expertise to professionally manage their endowment funds. The Community Foundation Affiliate Fund Program helps groups not only manage their funds, but also helps build their endowment program as part of broader Foundation marketing efforts,” Stoffregen added.

“The Lone Tree Community Fund will now be able to apply for a grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County to help with their projects,” said Stoffregen.
